It definitely needs improvement. I'd say, keep Zack Snyder, get a new writer. I mean, it deserves to be improved.

I suspect average movie goers will go for the action and will recommend it to others on that note alone.

Good writing about a not so good movie! You nailed all the reasons why it kind of rocks and yet kind of sucks. I'm wondering how it will do at the box office? Big opener and then drop a lot from word of mouth?

I haven't yet played Uncharted 3: Game of the Year but my favorite so far is Uncharted 2: Game of the Year.
